Brosh Leads Men’s Track and Field on Day One of America East Championships

UMBC men’s track and field had a strong day at the America East Championships on Saturday with Sam Brosh leading the way as the top qualifier in the 1,500m. After the first day, the Retrievers sit in sixth place.

Burlington, Vt.-- UMBC men's track and field had a strong day at the America East Championships on Saturday with Sam Brosh leading the way as the top qualifier in the 1,500m. After the first day, the Retrievers sit in sixth place.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Brosh was the top qualifier in the 1,500m with a time of 3:55.23. 
  • Marquis Miller qualified for a pair of finals in the 400m and the 200m with times of 48.79 and 21.60.
  • Nicolas Alphonse and Michael Arnold will compete in the 400m hurdle finals on Sunday after qualifying third and fourth with times of 55.29 and 55.36.
  • Tyler Dregely (800m, 1:54.60), Brian Nelson (100m, 10.73), and Shavar Staats (100m, 10.77) will also compete in the finals of their respective events.
  • Mack McKeever had a top ten finish in the 3,000m steeplechase finals with a time of 9:25.47 in sixth place.
  • In the field, Toren Burr turned in a pair of top ten finishes taking fourth in the javelin (61.47m) and seventh in the hammer throw (49.90m).
  • Jameer Robinson and Thomas Hamby were just behind Burr in the javelin and hammer throw respectively taking tenth (53.14m) and tenth (46.06m) respectively.
  • Alexander Ianniello and Ibrahim Khairat rounded out the field with seventh place finishes in the pole vault (4.05m) and the long jump (6.83m).

The final day of the America East Championships will begin at 10 a.m. tomorrow on America East TV.
