BALTIMORE – Visiting Binghamton scored eight consecutive goals deep into the second half to break open a see-saw game and defeat UMBC, 20-14, in an America East contest played on the turf at UMBC Stadium.
UMBC junior attacker
Claire Bockstie (Forest Hill, Md./Maryvale Prep) led the Retrievers with five goals, which included her 100th career goal with 6:14 to play in the second quarter.
Both UMBC (7-5) and Binghamton (6-5) are now 1-1 in America East play.
The game featured seven ties, but just two lead changes, as the Retrievers took their lone lead at 13-12 on a goal by freshman attacker
Kolby Weedon (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) with 4:06 to play in the third quarter.Weedon's goal capped an 8-3 run by UMBC as they rallied from a 9-5 deficit.
But UMBC's lead lasted only 57 seconds as Binghamton scored a player-up goal. The visitors would take the lead for good 31 seconds after that and finished the third quarter on a 4-0 run to forge ahead, 16-13 after 45 minutes.
Weedon and sophomore attacker
Dymin Gerow (Baltimore, Md.) each tallied three goals for UMBC. Binghamton was led by Marisa Tancredi who scored five goals.
The Bearcats lead, 5-4, after one quarter and 10-8 at halftime.
Bockstie's 49 goals are already tied for ninth-best in a single season in school history.
UMBC travels to Vermont for a league contest versus the Catamounts on Saturday.
