BALTIMORE– UMBC baseball rebounded from their loss on Tuesday with a 19-1 rout of Maryland Eastern Shore on Wednesday afternoon. Drew Roberts (Matthews, N.C.) drove in six runs to lead UMBC.

The Retrievers improve to 14-18 on the year while the Hawks fall to 9-23.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• After the Hawks opened the game with a run, UMBC responded with four runs in the bottom half of the first. Roberts got two of his six RBI in the inning with a two-run double and later scored on a Luke Trythall (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) single to make it 4-1.
• The Retrievers put up a pair of runs in the second, and exploded for seven in the third. Justin Taylor (Reston, Va.) drew a bases loaded walk to plate Matt Ryan (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman). After a wild pitch scored a run, and another bases loaded walk, Roberts cleared the bases with a three-run triple to right center to make it 12-1 UMBC.
• UMBC would not stop there, getting a run in the fourth and two in the sixth on Hunter Rivera's (Lawrenceville, N.J.) two-RBI double in his first collegiate at bat.
• Rivera would add the insurance in the eighth with an RBI single that scored Myles Nicholson (Hagerstown, Md./St. James).
• UMBC would get great pitching from starter Joe Pucek (Morristown, N.J.) who went seven strong innings in a win. He struck out nine batters, scattering four hits.

Roberts led the charge going 3-4 from the dish with six RBIs. Rivera drove in three with two hits as four different Retrievers had multiple hits.

The Retrievers will head to NJIT this weekend for a three-game America East set against the Highlanders. Game one will be at 8 p.m. on Friday with all three games played at Kean University in Union, N.J.
