Women's Lacrosse Hosts Beltway Foe Towson on Wednesday Afternoon

The game time has been moved up to 3:00 p.m..

BALTIMORE – The UMBC women's lacrosse team welcomes Towson in a Baltimore beltway battle on Wednesday, March 8. The game time has altered and moved up to 3:00 p.m. and is slated for the Bermuda grass at Retriever Soccer Park.
 
In their most recent outing, the Retrievers (3-2) battled tough with No. 18 Temple (5-1) on Friday, March 4, taking a 9-3 lead into halftime. However the Owls outscored the Retrievers 11-2 in the second half to defeat UMBC 14-11.

Sophomore Dymin Gerow (Baltimore, Md./Episcopal) led the Retrievers with five goals, adding one assist. Junior Claire Bockstie (Forest Hill, Md./Maryvale Prep) added four goals in the loss.

  • Bockstie is currently seventh in the nation, averaging 4.2 goals per game and leads the Retrievers with 21 goals. She is also tied for 13th nationally with 5.4 points per game (27). Gerow is tied for 23rd nationally with 5.0 points per game (19g, 6a) and is tied for third with 2.0 free position goals scored per game.
 
  • As a team, the Retrievers are ranked 19th (tied with two others), scoring 14.8 goals per contest. They have outscored their foes, 19-5, on free position attempts, scoring on 48.7 percent, while allowing a mark of 29.4 percent.
 
  • Despite allowing 14 goals to the Owls on Friday, UMBC is still ranked 11th nationally at 8.2 goals per game permitted. Senior goalkeeper Lexi Roberts (Baldwin, Md./Fallston) is 12th nationally with a 53.0 save percentage and 16th, sporting a 8.86 goals against average
 
 
A Look At The Tigers
 
  • Towson come into Wednesday's matchup with an overall record of 1-3 winning their last game against St Joseph's by a resounding 20-8 margin. Junior midfielder Blair Pearre scored five goals and captured 13 draw controls in the game.
 
  • Two of Towson's three losses came against nationally-ranked teams at the time, No. 9 Loyola Maryland (13-11) and No. 10 Michigan, 18-6.  Towson and UMBC have one shared opponent as both have played and lost to Mount St. Mary's. The Mount defeated TU, 14-11, in the opener and edged UMBC, 10-9.
 
  • Pearre leads the Tigers with 10 goals from 17 shots, and 11 total points. Sara Tyssowski is the starting goalie for Towson giving up 41 goals through the first four games. She made 13 saves in the loss to Loyola.
 
A Glance At The Series
 
  • Towson leads the all-time series, 37-7, and has won seven straight games. UMBC's last win occurred in 2011, a 10-9 victory at UMBC Stadium.
     
  • The two teams played at Towson to open the Retrievers' 2021 season and the hosts came away with a 12-5 victory. Bockstie scored once for the Retrievers, while Pearre tallied four times for the Tigers.
 
UMBC plays at Bucknell on Saturday, March 12 at 1:00 p.m.
