Women's Basketball

Women's Basketball Concludes Season at Binghamton

The UMBC Women's Basketball team concludes the 2021-22 season when it faces host Binghamton at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Fans can catch all the action on ESPN3. 

Scouting the Retrievers:

  • Host Maine outscored UMBC, 23-9, in the second quarter and went on to defeat the Retrievers, 71-47, on Sunday.
  • Graduate student Onome-Juliet Esadah (Delta State, Nigeria) led the visitors with 14 points and 9 rebounds. Esadah hit all six attempts from the field and both free throw attempts
  • Junior Keelah Dixon (Boston, Mass.) added 13 points.
  • UMBC was eliminated from post-season competition with the setback

Scouting the Bearcats

  • Junior guard Denai Bowman led a balanced attack with 15 points and senior guard Hayley Moore added 12 points, leading Binghamton (8-19, 4-13 AE) to a 60-49 win over New Hampshire (7-20, 4-12 AE) in an America East women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon at Dr. Bai Lee Court at the Events Center.
  • The victory, which came in the Bearcats' annual Senior Day Game, was their third victory in the past four contests.
  • Bowman, who ranks third in the America East with 14.3 points per game, went 5-for-9 from the field and 5-for-6 from the free throw line. She also added six rebounds, three assists and three steals.
  • Moore, who was one of three players honored during the pregame Senior Day Ceremony, went 4-of-7 from the field and drained three three-point field goals. She also dished out four assists.
  • With one game left to go in the regular season, the Bearcats can be seeded anywhere from No. 6 to No. 8 in the upcoming America East Tournament.

  • Returning to play after its second extended hiatus of the season, the Retriever women's basketball team fell, 67-44, to visiting Binghamton at the Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena on 1/29/22
  • The two teams split a pair of games at Binghamton last season
  • The Retrievers took the first game, 57-54, on 12/27/20 before dropping a 65-60 decision the following day
  • The win snapped a six game losing streak to the Bearcats and was the first UMBC win in Vestal since 1/28/15 (five games)
