Women's Basketball

Women's Basketball Hosts UAlbany on National Girls and Women in Sports Day

The UMBC Women's Basketball team welcomes UAlbany to Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena on Wednesday for National Girls and Women in Sports Day. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and fans can watch on ESPN+. The back-to-back America East champion UMBC Volleyball and Softball teams will be honored at halftime. 

Scouting the Retrievers:
  • Returning to play after its second extended hiatus of the season, the Retriever women's basketball team fell, 67-44, to visiting Binghamton at the Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena.
  • Junior guard Keelah Dixon (Boston, Mass.) scored 14 of her season-high 17 points in the first half as the short-handed Retrievers forged a 29-all deadlock with the Bearcats.
  • But Binghamton broke the game open by outscoring UMBC, 20-5, in the third quarter.
  • The contest was UMBC's first since January 19. Earlier in the campaign, UMBC did not compete from December 21-January 12.
  • Jatarrikah Settle (Frederick, Md.) finished with nine points
  • Graduate student Janee'a Summers (Bound Brook, N.J.) added eight points, and team-highs in rebounds (6) and steals (3).
Scouting the Great Danes
  • After a slow start to the game, UAlbany (14-6, 7-2 AE) used a 22-2 second quarter to defeat host Binghamton on Monday night
  • Sophomore Kayla Cooper topped the Great Danes with 15 points and six rebounds, including four defensive rebounds and two offensive rebounds.
  • Junior Helene Haegerstrand was close behind with 11 points, nine of which came from three-point baskets.
  • Redshirt-sophomore Morgan Haney shot a team-high 66.7% from the field while owning five assists and two steals - also team-highs.
  • Haegerstrand and senior Lucia Decortes each tallied a block.

All-Time Series
  • UAlbany leads the all-time series, 25-14, with teams alternating wins and losses for the last seven contests.
  • Playing their third road game in the span of five days, the UMBC women's basketball team fell, 69-40, to UAlbany on 1/19
  • Summers led the Retrievers with 12 points and moved into thirteenth place on UMBC's all-time scoring list.
