Kansas City, Mo. – UMBC forward Taylor Calheira (Towson, Md./Concordia Prep), midfielder Ryan Becher (Hummelstown, Pa.) and defender Hans Nesheim earned United Soccer Coaches All-Northeast Region honors for the 2022 campaign.
Calheira landed on the Northeast Region's Second Team for the second consecutive year, while Becher also earned Second Team honors after receiving Third Team honors in 2021.

Nesheim also landed on the Third Team, giving the Retrievers three honorees for the first time since 2013.

United Soccer Coaches have honored 33 different UMBC men's soccer players since 1991. Calheira and Becher are the first repeat winners since defender Jon Bell, now a member of the MLS's St. Louis City SC, earned back-to-back awards in 2018 and 2019.  

Calheira earned the America East Conference's 2021 Striker of the Year honors and was also named to the league's All-Conference First team. The local product now has 22 goals and 56 points in 45 career games played. His 29 points scored in 2021 is the fifth-most (tied) recorded by a junior in school history.

The America East Conference tabbed Becher to its First Team and he earned America East Offensive Player of the Week honors four consecutive times in the home stretch of the season.  He scored 13 goals and added 10 assists in 2021, recording the most points by a Retriever since 2009. Becher has moved into a tie for eighth place with 20 UMBC career assists, becoming the tenth Retriever to reach the 20-assist plateau.

The league selected Nesheim to its Second Team and All-Academic Team. He also earned College Sports Communicators' Academic All-District honors.
