Box Score Easton, Pa. – The UMBC women's basketball team suffered a 72-38 defeat at Lafayette on Wednesday evening. The Retrievers fell to 2-4 on the season.
KK White led the way with 11 points and
Kiara Bell contributed 10 rebounds.
But UMBC hit only 17-of-55 shots from the floor (30.9 percent), while Lafayette buried 31-of-60 (51.7 percent).
Ashia McCalla hit a trey and White converted a jumper to give the visitors an early 7-4 lead at the midpoint of the first quarter. But the Leopards outscored the Retrievers, 11-1, over the final 4:52 of the period to take a 15-10 lead after 10 minutes.
UMBC only sunk 7-of-26 shots from the floor in the second quarter and Lafayette built the lead to 26-16 at intermission.
Lafayette added 22 points in the third quarter and 24 in the final period to close out the contest.
UMBC heads back to Pennsylvania for a Saturday afternoon class (3:30 p.m.) at Temple.
