Volleyball Routs UAlbany in Regular Season Finale

The Retrievers secured the No. 2 seed in next weekend's league tournament at BInghamton

Box Score  ALBANY – The UMBC volleyball squad swept host UAlbany, 3-0, in the regular season finale and secured the No. 2 seed in next weekend's America East Conference Championships.

The Retrievers will attempt to make it three straight league championships and take on No. 3 Bryant on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 4:00 p.m. at Binghamton University.

UMBC cruised past the Great Danes, 25-19, 25-19, 25-13, posting their sixth consecutive win over UAlbany. The Retrievers held the hosts to -.009 hitting.

DeMarzi came up with a career high 10 blocks and had 17 in the two matches over the weekend.
Junior Mia Bilusic led a balanced effort with seven kills, while classmate Aysia Miller led all players with 13 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • SET 1- UMBC jumped out to a 5-0 lead, but UAlbany fought back to knot the match at 17-all. A Bilusic kill started a 4-0 run and the Retrievers went on to a first set victory.
  • SET 2 – The Great Danes took a 12-9 lead, but the visitors responded with a 9-3 run to take control in the latter stages of the set. Mila Ilieva, Kamani Conteh and Bilusic closed the set with three kills on three swings.
  • SET 3 – The Retrievers never trailed, building an 8-7 lead to 17-9, after an Ilieva ace and block by DeMarzi and Weronika Wrzesinska. UMBC finished the match on a 5-0, with Kayla Tomas serving the final four points.
UMBC ended the regular season at 15-8 overall and 7-3 in America East play. They split a pair of matches with Bryant this season, and also split with No. 4 UNH and top-seeded Binghamton.
