Maden Paces Offense in Sweep of UAlbany

BALTIMORE -- Serin Maden (Ankara, Turkey) had 33 assists to help lead a balanced offensive performance as the UMBC Volleyball team swept visiting UAlbany (25-22, 25-20, 25-18) on Sunday afternoo at The Peake. 

It was UMBC's first ever home sweep of UAlbany, and only its second ever (2013 AE Semifinals at UNH) in 48 all-time matches.

UMBC (11-5, 4-0 AE) hit .388 on Maden's sets as eight different Retrievers had a kill. Kamani Conteh (New Castle, Del.) lead all players with 12 kills, while Mia Bilusic (Zagreb, Croatia) filled the stat sheet with eight kills, nine digs, five aces, three blocks and an assists. Maden also added six digs and a block in the contest.

Mila Ilieva (Vidin, Bulgaria) had a match-best six blocks to go with five kills and five digs, while Emily Ferketic (Pittsburgh, Pa.) had four kills and four blocks (two solo). Michela De Marzi (Milan, Italy) had five kills and four blocks. Aysia Miller (Mililani, Hawaii) paced the team with 11 digs and added four assists as she helped hold the visitors to .079 hitting on the day.

The Retrievers have a week off before traveling north to face host New Hampshire next Sunday at 1 p.m.
