Fort Worth, Tx. -- The UMBC Volleyball team wrapped up play in Texas by falling to Big 12 opponent and host TCU (3-2) in straight sets on Friday night (25-14, 25-18, 25-23)
UMBC (1-6) was lead on offense by Kamani Conteh (New Castle, Del.), who finished with a team-high 11 kills. Freshman Mila Ilieva (Vidin, Bulgaria) added three kills and six block, while classmate Mia Bilusic (Zagreb, Croatia) had four kills, four blocks and four digs.
Aysia Miller (Mililani, Hawaii)had 22 assists and nine digs, which tied Loren Teter (Redondo Beach, Calif.) for the team-lead in digs for the match.
Beste Ayhan (Istanbul, Turkey) had five kills on eight attacks with no errors, while contributing defensively with two blocks. Emily Ferketic (Pittsburgh, Pa.) added four kills and two blocks in the defeat.
The Retrievers will return home to the Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena for their first matches in front of fans since 2019, when they host the Charm City Challenge Presented by Sir Speedy next weekend. UMBC will host Quinnipiac at 1 p.m. on Friday and Howard at 7 p.m. There will be a championship banner ceremony prior to the 7 p.m. match. The Retrievers will then host Maryland at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
