The UMBC volleyball squad (5-9) plays its final non-conference match until early November when the Coppin State Eagles (5-6) visit the Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena on Monday, Sept. 20. The opening serve is set to take place at 6:00 p.m. and the match will be broadcast on the America East digital network.

RETRIEVER REVIEW

·       For the second consecutive weekend, UMBC took two of three matches in tournament competition. The Retrievers recorded sweeps over Robert Morris and GW, while falling in three sets to host West Virginia in the Mountaineer Invitational.   

HONORED

·       Freshman Mia Bilusic (Zagreb, Croatia) earned All-Tournament Team honors at the Mountaineer Classic. Bilusic amassed 44 kills in the three matches and hit a solid .247 for the Retrievers. She added 20 digs as well.

 

STAT LEADERS

·       Bilusic moved up to fifth place in kills per set in America East with 2.64. Sophomore Beste Ayhan (Istanbul, Turkey) leads the conference with 1.19 blocks per set.

 

·       Graduate student libero Loren Teter (Redondo Beach, Calif.) stands second in the conference with 4.38 digs per set.

 

 

A GLANCE AT COPPIN STATE    

·       The Eagles are 5-6 this season, having lost their last match 3-0 to Loyola Maryland on Sept. 15.  The previous weekend, the Eagles went 1-2, dropping matches to both Robert Morris and UNC Greensboro, while capturing their final match against George Mason.   

 

·       Senior Miajavon Coleman leads the team in kills, 142, and kills per set, 3.55.  Junior libero Ashley Roman is leading the team in digs with 210, and digs per set, 5.25.  

 

·       UMBC leads Coppin State in the all-time series, 18-3-1.  Their last match-up was in the 2020-2021 season, where the Retrievers swept the Eagles, 3-0.
