Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball Falls at Miami (Fla.); Loren Teter Named to FGCU Invitational All-Tournament Team

Coral Gables, Fla. – Miami (Fla.) hit a blistering 37.0 percent and defeated the visiting UMBC volleyball squad, 3-0, at the James L. Knight Sports Complex on Sunday.

The Hurricanes triumphed, 25-8, 25-17, 25-11 to improve to 3-0 on the season. After a Saturday which saw the Retrievers play ten sets, UMBC fell to 0-4.

Sophomore setter Aysia Miller (Mililiani, Hawaii) produced a double-double with a dozen assists and digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • UMBC never got untracked in the first set, falling behind, 8-1, and only managing four kills.
  • The Retrievers started brightly in the second stanza, taking a brief 4-2 lead behind an ace from Ayhan. After a 9-2 surge by Miami, a tandem block by Miller and Ayhan, along with a put-away from graduate student Grace Rigsbee (Suwanee, Ga.) brought UMBC to within 12-10. But a 5-0 Cane response put them in control and a 4-0 run to end the set provided an eight-point margin of victory.
  • Miami hit 45.5 percent in the final set, taking an early 11-2 advantage and closing out the match.

OTHER NOTES

  • Ayhan produced four kills and no errors (4/7, 57.1 percent) in the match
  • Graduate student libero Loren Teter (Redondo Beach, Calif.) earned All Tournament Team honors from the Homewood Suites FGCU Invitational. Teter amassed 71 digs and pitching in with 13 assists in 13 sets of work in Fort Myers.
