Retriever GAMEDAY Program
BALTIMORE - The UMBC women's soccer team opens its 2021 regular season schedule on Thurs., Aug. 19 as the Robert Morris Colonials visit Retriever Soccer Park. The opening kick-off is slated for 7:00 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on the America East digital network.
- Head Coach Vanessa Mann enters her fourth season at the helm of the Retrievers. Assistant coach Jen Mavis also returns for Year No. 4, while Daniel Saucedo joined the staff earlier this month.
- Fourteen of the 27 players on the fall 2021 roster will be making their debuts in the black and gold. There are two seniors (Megan Chun, Morgan Rees) and one graduate student (Erin Stevenson) among the 13 returning letterwinners
- Retriever Watch –Midfielder Erin Stevenson (Sellersville, Pa.) returns for a fifth season with the program. She has started all 57 games that the Retrievers have competed in since 2018. A 2021 America East Second Team member, Stevenson has tallied eight career goals.
- UMBC posted a 1-4-1 record in the spring of 2021, with two of the four setbacks occurring by a single goal. Sophomore forward Meghan McKye (Toronto, Ont.) recorded the game-winning goal in the 99' in a 1-0 America East win at NJIT on March 28.
- Stevenson earned America East Second Team honors in the spring season of 2021, while freshman midfielder Grace Harvey was tabbed to the league's All-Rookie Team.
- The Retrievers will face RMU for the 11th time, with UMBC holding a 7-3-0 series advantage. However, the Colonials have won the last two times, including a 1-0 victory to open the 2018 campaign. RMU scored with 24 seconds left in regulation to earn the victory at RSP. The Retrievers are 4-2-0 vs. the Colonials in Baltimore.
- UMBC is 2-2-3 in its last seven season opening games. In the spring of 2021, they played Towson to a scoreless double-overtime draw. The squad's last opening game win occurred in 2016, when they edged American, 3-2, in double overtime.
- The Colonial women posted a 1-8 record in the spring of 2021. They permitted 29 goals in nine games and scored eight times. Junior M/F Sheridan Reid was one of eight goal-scorers and added two assists to lead the offense. Graduate student goalkeeper Courtney Worstell was action in eight of the nine games and made 52 saves.
- UMBC heads for Staten Island, N.Y. and a date with Wagner on Sunday, August 22. The opening kick is set for 1:00 p.m.
