Game 2 Video Highlights

Stony Brook, N.Y. -- Maddie Daigneau (New River, Ariz.) picked up her 200th career hit, and with two outs in the seventh had the game-tying hit and scored the winning run to rally the UMBC Softball team (21-11, 10-5 AE) past host Stony Brook (25-13, 10-5 AE), 3-2, in the second game of a doubleheader.

The Seawolves took the first game, 11-2, in five innings.

The two teams will close the regular season tomorrow at noon, with the winner earning the Regular Season title.

The drama in game two started in the top of the seventh, with the Retrievers trailing 2-0. Logan Hawker (Mechanicsville, Va.) had a pinch-hit single to leadoff the inning. Ashley Della Guardia (Phoenixville, Pa.) then returned to replace Hawker on the base paths.

After a flyout, Meghan Dempsey (Collegeville, Pa.) reached on an error to put runners on the corners with one out. Pinch runner Julia Colton (Elkridge, Md.) then stole second before a strikeout had UMBC within an out of dropping the game.

The first pitch to Daigneau then got away from the catcher, allowing Della Guardia to score and cut the lead to 2-1. Two pitches later, Daigneau slapped a single up the middle to tie the game at two. She then stole second, the 65th of her career, which moved her into sole possession of fourth place on the UMBC all-time stolen base list. Julia Keffler (Huntingtown, Md.) would rip a single to right to score Daigneau and put UMBC up 3-2.

Courtney Coppersmith (York, Pa.) worked a perfect seventh to lockdown the win. Coppersmith improved to 15-2 on the season and recorded her 200th strikeout of the season in the seventh. She pitched all seven innings, allowing two runs on four hits, while striking out 10 and walking none.

Sierra Pierce (Youngstown, Ohio) was the only Retriever with multiple hits, going 2-for-3. Casey Turner (Baltimore, Md.) added a double, and Madison Wilson (Abingdon, Md.) also singled.

In Game 1 Keffler picked up a pair of hits, while Turner blasted a two run homer, the first of her career. Anna Lonchar (Bristow, Va.) also had a hit for the Retrievers, while Shanel Stott (Cumberland, Md.) drew a walk and scored on Turner's homer.

Gillian McCarthy (Northfield, N.J.) came on in relief of Madie Leach (Erie, Colo.) pitched two innings of relief, allowing three runs (two earned), while striking out one and walking none.
