Men's Soccer Drops 2-0 Decision at Binghamton

Box Score

Vestal, N.Y. – Host Binghamton scored in the eighth minute play and added another as UMBC pressed forward in the closing stages to claim a 2-0 victory at the Bearcats Sports Complex.

The Retrievers fell to 2-2-1 and 1-2-1 in America East play, while Binghamton improved to 2-1-0 (overall, AE) in the Retrievers' final out-of-pod contest of the spring season.

UMBC still controls its own destiny as the winner of each three-team pod will advance to the four-team America East playoffs. The Retrievers face rematches with both Stony Brook (March 26) and NJIT (April 9) in their pod (Pod C) over the next three weeks.

The Bearcats struck early as Noah Luescher scored his fourth goal in three games just 7:11 into the contest.

The Retrievers picked up their play in the second half and created several good scoring chances. The final and best effort occurred in the 85', when sophomore Ryan Becher's (Hummelstown, Pa.) free kick hit the crossbar and the rebound was cleared away.

With UMBC pressing, Binghamton scored an insurance marker with less than three minutes remaining.

Both teams were credited with seven shots and UMBC junior goalkeeper Quantrell Jones (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood) earned three saves on the day.

UMBC faces the critical match versus Stony Brook at Retriever Soccer Park on Friday, March 26. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
