Box Score BALTIMORE - UMBC was held to a season low 51 points and fell, 62-51 to visiting UNC-Greensboro at the Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena.

Keondre Kennedy (Atlanta, Ga.) led the Retrievers with 14 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED – First Half
- UMBC (5-6) scored a dozen consecutive points to erase an early 5-0 deficit and took a 12-5 advantage on a Dimitrije Spasojevic (Vrsac, Serbia) lay-in at the 14:06 mark.
- But the Retrievers missed six consecutive treys and the Spartans countered with a 7-0 run to knot the game at 12-all with 12:02 to play in the period. Â
- UNCG (8-4) extended the run to 19-5 and took a 24-17 lead with 6:23 remaining in the half.
- The Retrievers appeared poised to take a lead into the locker room, but UNCG hit a three at the buzzer and led, 29-28 at intermission.
- Junior Yaw Obeng-Mensah (Toronto, Ont.) misfired on UMBC's only two free throw attempts of the half. Â Â Â Â
HOW IT HAPPENED – Second Half
- There were six lead changes and five ties in the first 11:48 of the second half until the Spartans' 6-0 run gave them a 50-47 lead with 6:33 remaining. The Retrievers suffered through a scoring drought of 5:21 in that span.
- After a pair of Ray Salnave (Elmont, N.Y.) free throws cut the deficit ot 50-49 with 4:04 remaining, the Spartans buried a trey on the ensuing possession and were never headed after that point.
- The Retrievers misfired on 11-of-12 attempts from 3-point range in the second half.

The contest was the first since both schools were members of the Big South Conference in 1996-97 season.
UMBC returns to action on Wednesday, Dec. 22 when they travel to Emmitsburg, Md. to face Mount St. Mary's.
