BALTIMOREĀ -- Freshman outside hitter Mia Bilusic (Zagreb, Croatia) tied a career-high with 23 kills on .353 hitting and added 11 digs as the UMBC Volleyball team defeated visiting UAlbany in four sets (25-19, 25-17, 23-25, 25-22) on Sunday afternoon.
UMBC (16-11, 11-0 AE) also had a big game from sophomore Aysia Miller (Mililani, Hawaii), who finished with 13 kills, 15 digs and three blocks.
The Retrievers outhit UAlbany (12-14, 7-4 AE), .227-.153, and won the dig battle, 55-49.
Andjelija Draskovic (Vrnjacka Banja, Serbia) had 53 assists, eight digs, four kills (.571 hitting) and a block, while
Beste Ayhan (Istanbul, Turkey) had six blocks and five kills. Freshman
Mila Ilieva (Vidin, Bulgaria) had seven kills on .600 hitting with five blocks.Ā
The seniors contributed too, with Paige Krenik (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) returning from injury to start and make her first appearance in 22 matches. Graduate student libero Loren Teter (Redondo Beach, Calif.) was solid with 13 digs, while classmate Grace Rigsbee (Suwanee, Ga.) had nine kills and five blocks.
UMBC closes out regular season play at Stony Brook on Friday at 6 p.m.
