Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Wake Forest Downs Women's Basketball

Winston-Salem, N.C. -- Grad student Jatarrikah Settle (Frederick, Md./Mount St. Mary's) had a team-best 11 points, but host Wake Forest (7-0) shot 57.1% from the field en route to a 94-48 win on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
·         The Retrievers (1-4) scored the first points of the game on a Keelah Dixon (Boston, Mass.) layup, but the Demon Deacons responded with four straight. Dixon made a steal and fed graduate student forward Onome-Juliet Esadah (Warri, Delta State, Nigeria) on the fast break for a layup to tie the game at four, but UMBC would trail the rest of the way.
·         Wake Forest shot 12-of-16 from the floor and led UMBC 32-10 after the first quarter.
·         The hot shooting for WFU continued as they started 18-of-27 from the field and 7-of-10 from three, and eventually took a 53-26 lead into the half
·         The hosts continued to extend their lead the rest of the way

NOTABLE
·         Dixon finished with eight points and a career-high five steals.
·         Esadah finished with seven points and six boards, while Loan-Anh Johnson (Wichita, Kan.) added nine points, three rebounds and a steal.
·         Laycee Drake (Hancock, N.Y.) returned from an injury sustained in the season opener to score a career-high four points.

UMBC concludes its five-game road trip at American on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
