Women's Basketball Travels to Wake Forest for Saturday Matchup

The UMBC Women's Basketball team plays game number four of its five game road trip when it faces Wake Forest on Saturday at 4 p.m.

The Retrievers (1-3) are looking to end a three-game skid after a late rally came up short at Richmond last Sunday. Janee'a Summers (Bound Brook, N.J.) scored 18 points in both games last week, while Onome-Juliet Esadah (Warri, Delta State, Nigeria) had 17 points and 10 rebounds at UR.

Summers surpassed the 1,000 career point mark last Wednesday at Loyola and is the team's leading scorer, averaging 14.5 points per game and a team second-best 5.5 rebounds per game. Esadah is averaging nine points and nine rebounds per game, while Keelah Dixon (Boston, Mass.) is averaging 8.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and three steals per game.

Scouting Wake Forest

The Demon Deacons enter Saturday at 6-0 after defeating High Point, 79-50, on the road Wednesday afternoon. Wake Forest made its second-ever NCAA appearance last season (first since 1988) when it earned an at-large bid and was given a #9 seed, but fell to Oklahoma State in the First Round.

Wake Forest is scoring 65.8 points per game while holding opponents to just 48.8 points per game, and is outrebounding its opponents by 12 per game game.

Jewel Spear leads the Demon Deacon offense with an average of 19.7 points per game, while Olivia Summiel is averaging a team-best 8.5 rebounds per game.

All-Time Series

Wake Forest leads the series 3-0, with the last meeting being a 71-41 victory in Winston-Salem 12/29/98. The closest meeting between the two teams was a 65-59 WFU win at UMBC on 1/13/92.
