Women's Basketball Heads to Richmond for Sunday Matinee

The UMBC Women's Basketball team looks to get back in the win column when it travels to Richmond on Sunday. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. on ESPN+. 

Scouting the Retrievers:
  • UMBC (1-2) is coming off a 63-57 loss at Loyola Maryland last Wednesday. 
  • Janee'a Summers led the Retrievers with 18 points on 7-14 shooting (3-5 from three), and she also scored her 1,000th career point.
  • Keelah Dixon finished with 12 points, which is her third straight game scoring double digits.
  • Alexia Nelson had six points, two assists, and two steals. 
  • Danae Marquez made her first start as a Retriever and had three points, two assists and a team-high seven rebounds.
  • Loyola finished the game on a 40-20 run in the last 17:20
  • The Greyhounds shot 17 free throws to UMBC's four, including a 13-2 advantage in the fourth
Scouting Richmond
  • Richmond is 1-2 after dropping a 71-50 decision at home to Elon on Thursday night. 
  • They beat Hampton, 96-47, on Sunday at home. 
  • Guards Kate Klimkiewicz and Siobhan Ryan each scored 16 points in the victory. 
  • Sophomore forward Addie Budnik was the A-10 Rookie of the Year in 2021 and leads the team in blocks, with 16, including seven against Elon. She also leads the team in assists (nine), points per game (12.0) and rebounds per game (7.3).

All-Time Series

  • Richmond leads the all-time series 5-1, but the teams haven't met since the Spiders defeated the Retrievers, 64-51, in 2007.
