Newark, N.J. -- The UMBC Volleyball team used stifiling defense to sweep host NJIT (25-16, 25-11, 25-14) on Friday and remain undefeated in America East play.
The Retrievers held the Highlanders to -.040 hitting, with the only non-negative hitting set being the first in which they hit .000. UMBC (9-10, 4-0 AE) also had nine blocks and 38 digs, both more than NJIT (1-15, 0-3 AE).
Reigning America East Setter of the Week Andjelija Draskovic (Vrnjacka Banja, Serbia) finished with 27 assists, 11 digs and four block, while the team hit .397 on her sets. Mia Bilusic (Zagreb, Croatia) led all players with 10 kills, while Beste Ayhan (Istanbul, Turkey) finished with five kills (with no errors) and five blocks.
Graduate student Grace Rigsbee (Suwanee, Ga.) contributed six kills and three blocks, while classmate Loren Teter (Redondo Beach, Calif.) had 10 digs and her first kill as a Retriever. Freshman Mila Ilieva (Vidin, Bulgaria) had four kills and a block, and Aysia Miller (Mililani, Hawaii) filled the stat sheet with five kills, three digs, two aces and a block.
The Retrievers host New Hampshire on Sunday at 1 p.m. for #UMBChomecoming.
