Women's Swimming and Diving Earns Five Medals in Meet at Navy

Junior Jenna Gwinn (Baltimore, Md./Mount de Sales) continued her outstanding start to the 2021-22, capturing the 100 yard breaststroke as the Retrievers competed against the U.S. Naval Academy squad at Lejeune Hall.

ANNAPOLIS – Junior Jenna Gwinn (Baltimore, Md./Mount de Sales) continued her outstanding start to the 2021-22, capturing the 100 yard breaststroke as the Retrievers competed against the U.S. Naval Academy squad at Lejeune Hall.

Gwinn shaved more than a second off her previous time and captures the race in 1:04.66. The junior also earned silver in the 200 breaststroke, posting a time of 2:24.95.

"The team really stepped up to the plate today to give navy our best effort," said Gwinn. "It was a great opportunity for us to get up and race a fast team and push ourselves to a new level."

The Retrievers earned a total of five first, second or third place finishes in the meet. Navy prevailed in the meet by a score of 177-105.

Graduate student Natalija Marin (Belgrade, Serbia) and junior Kylie Kelly (Hagerstown, Md.) produced excellent finishes, taking second and fourth place respectively in the 200 yard butterfly.

Catonsville High School product and sophomore Makaela Hill posted a mark of 53.45 in the 100 freestyle and earned another silver for the Retrievers.

UMBC competes at William & Mary next Saturday, Sept. 30.
