Softball Drops Pair on Saturday

Norfolk,VA – The UMBC Softball Team dropped a pair of games against CAA squads Delaware and Drexel on Saturday at the Pirate Invite.

In the opener against Drexel (2-5), the Retrievers fell 9-1 in six innings. Imani Dawson (Hanover,MD) continued her torrid week when she smacked an RBI single, that scored Logan Hawker (Mechanicsville,PA). Hawker reached on base via a walk. Her walk was one of five Retriever walks in the game, led by Anna Lonchar's (Bristow,VA) two. Kelly Krizmanich (Burtonsville,MD) pitched the majority of the game for the Retrievers, going 3.1 innings and striking out one. 

In game number two, sophomore Courtney Coppersmith (York,PA) recorded 13 strikeouts for UMBC (4-9) in six scoreless innings of work, but the Blue Hens (16-4) got to the Retriever bullpen and walked-off with a 1-0 win. 

Hawker had two of the four Retriever hits in the game.

UMBC will finish out the Pirate Invite on Sunday at 10 AM against Saint Peter's.
