Softball Falls to No.1 Oklahoma in NCAA Tournament

Norman, Okla. -- The America East Champion UMBC Softball (30-23) team fell to No.1 Oklahoma (50-2) on Friday night in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Sooners jumped out early and took a 12-0 run-rule victory in five innings.

Courtney Coppersmith (York, Pa.) went 3.1 with two strikeouts, including one of Big 12 Player of the Year Sydney Romero. It was only Romero's 7th strikeout of the season. Gillian McCarthy (Northfield, N.J.) faced two batters and retired both in the fourth.  

Oklahoma, who is on an NCAA single-season record 40 game winning streak, used three pitchers to combine for a perfect game.

UMBC will face Notre Dame in an elimination game 5:30 CT on Saturday.
