Lowell, Mass.-- The UMBC Softball team out-hit host UMass Lowell twice, but dropped both games of the doubleheader against the undefeated River Hawks in heartbreaking fashion. UML (22-14, 10 AE) took the first game, 1-0, and then used a two-run walk-off single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to win a wild, 6-5 affair in the second game. 

UMBC (23-17, 4-6 AE) have now dropped four straight America East contests, all on the road, and all by a single run. The River Hawks took game one on the strength of a fourth inning solo home run off the bat of the nation's leading hitter, Courtney Cashman. The Retrievers out-hit UML 4-2 in the first game, and 11-5 in the second game. 

Logan Hawker (Mechanicsville, Va.) and Valerie Hammett (Mechanicsville, Md.) each had three hits and an RBI on the day, while Kaly Winslow (Leesburg, Va.) and Anna Lonchar (Bristow, Va.) each drove in arun of their own. Sierra Pierce (Youngstown, Ohio) and Julia Keffler (Huntingtown, Md.) each had two hits and arun scored in the second game.

Courtney Coppersmith (York, Pa.) pitched all 12.2 innings on the day, finishing with 15 strikeouts.

The two teams will look to finish the series tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.
