Box Score VESTAL, N.Y. - Severe rain halted play in the 86th minute against the UMBC women's soccer team and the Binghamton Bearcats on Thursday night. The Bearcats took the contest by a score of 2-0.
STRAIGHT FACTS
Erin Stevenson (Sellersville, Pa.) took the first shot of the game for either team in the second minute, sending the ball high over the net.
The Bearcats scored in the 13th minute after Dora Hayes put a pass from Essie Bonnie low in the center of the goal.
Binghamton looked to add to their lead in the 20th minute, but Jade Wilkins (Stoney Beach, Md./The Catholic High School) saved it from going into the net.
The Bearcats added to their lead in the 23rd minute after Sarah Dibble sent a shot to Olivia McKnight, who was able to put the ball into the high right corner.
WIlkins made her second save of the game in the 30th minute to keep the game at 2-0.
In the second half, Christina Corbi (Medford, N.J.) sent the first shot on goal in the 56th minute but Binghamton's Mackenzie Hanna made the save.
Action was sparse until the game was called at the 85:02 mark due to severe rain.
FOR THE RECORD
The Bearcats finish the regular season at 10-5-2 and 4-3-1 in America East play. The Retrievers end the year at 2-13-2 overall and 1-7-0 in conference contests.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Corbi had the only shot on goal for the Retrievers in the game; however, Binghamton only edged out UMBC, 6-4, in total shots.
Corbi, Stevenon, Nikki Saad (Hummelstown, Pa.), and Danielle Fuentes (Rockville, Md.) each sent a shot towards the net on the night.
This is the second game of the season that was called for weather for UMBC; the season opener against NJIT was halted in the 105th minute due to torrential rain.
MINDING THE NET
Hanna finished the game with one save, while Wilkins made two. Alyssa Minnick (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep) played the final 40 minutes for the Retrievers.
