Women's Lacrosse Falls to Albany, 11-7, on Saturday

BALTIMORE - The UMBC women's lacrosse team fell, 11-7, to the Albany Great Danes on Saturday, April 7. The Great Danes move to 5-7 overall and 4-0 in America East play, while the Retrievers fall to 9-5 overall and 1-3 in conference action.

The Great Danes started the game on a four-goal spurt, including three-straight from Kaylee Rickert. Junior Lauren McDonald (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) scored her first of the day to break up the run, netting a goal at the 11:34 mark.

Albany added two more goals to the board before McDonald scored again to cut the Great Danes' lead to 6-2. Junior Payton Van Kirk (Ocean City, Md./Stephen Decatur) would add a final goal with nine seconds left before halftime but Albany would hold onto a 7-3 lead at the break.

The Great Danes opened the second period with two goals to extend their lead to 9-3. McDonald cut the deficit to five at the nine-minute mark before Albany answered back with another two straight goals.

UMBC ended the game with two goals from McDonald, one off an assist from senior Carolyn Jamison (Westminster, Md./Westminster), and a goal from Van Kirk.

McDonald led the day with six points (5g,1a), and was 2-4 from free position shots, while Jamison had two assists, two caused turnovers, and four ground balls. Senior Caitlin Miller (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) controlled a game-high six draws.

In goal, Albany's Erin Leghart picked up the win after playing 54:37 between the pipes and making eight saves. Georgia Schneidereith played the remainder of the game, making one save. For UMBC, senior Kelsey Major (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) made nine saves in net for the Retrievers.

UMBC will return to the field on Saturday, April 14 as they welcome the Vermont Catamounts to UMBC Stadium. The opening draw is set for 12 p.m.
