FARMVILLE, Va. - For the sixth time this season, the UMBC women's lacrosse held its opponent to 10 goals of less, defeating the Longwood Lancers, 13-10, at Elizabeth Burger Jackson Field on Saturday afternoon. The Retrievers move to 7-2 on the season, while the Lancers fall to 3-5.

Senior Carolyn Jamison (Westminster, Md./Westminster) started off the scoring for UMBC as the senior netted a goal off an assist from junior Sara Moeller (Phoenix, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) three minutes into the game.

Longwood tied it up a few minutes later, but junior Lauren McDonald (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) and sophomore Zoë Pekins (Columbia, Md./Hammond) quickly gave UMBC the 3-1 lead with 24:25 on the clock.

The Lancers scored two goals in the matter of 39 seconds to tie the game up at 3-all before senior Caitlin Miller (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) scored her first of day. The Lancers and Retrievers went back and forth until the score was 5-5, but UMBC used a three-goal spurt, including two from Moeller, to end the first half and took a 8-5 lead into halftime.

Junior Brittany Levine (Middletown, Md./Middletown) converted a free-position shot for the Retrievers to give them a 9-5 lead early in the second half before the Lancers scored to cut the lead to three.

After McDonald netted an assist from Moeller for the 10-6 lead, Longwood used a three-goal run to cut UMBC's lead down to just one. McDonald scored her fourth goal of the day off a pass from Jamison to extend the lead back to two, 11-9.

The Lancers attempted one more comeback attempt as they cut UMBC's lead to 11-10 with 8:47 remaining in the half, but Miller and Jamison each scored to put the Retrievers up 13-10 for the remainder of the game.

Jamison led the day with six points off three goals and three assists, followed by McDonald (4g) and Moeller (2g, 2a). McDonald also controlled a game-high eight draw controls for the Retrievers.

In goal, senior Kelsey Major (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) picked up her fourth win of the year after making four saves in a little over 22 minutes of play between the pipes. Junior Carly Tolino (Middletown, Md./Middletown) played the remainder of the time in goal, making one save. For Longwood, Imani West made 14 saves in all 60 minutes of play.

The Retrievers will open a two-game homestand as they return to UMBC Stadium on Saturday, March 24 as they open America East play against the New Hampshire Wildcats. The opening draw is set for 11 a.m. and is part of a doubleheader with the men's team, who will take on Michigan at 3 p.m.
