Box Score

BALTIMORE, Md. - The UMBC women's lacrosse team saw its three-game winning streak snapped as they fell to the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays, 13-9, on Wednesday night. The Blue Jays move to 7-2 on the season, while the Retrievers fall to 6-2.

The Retrievers opened the scoring on a goal from senior Carolyn Jamison (Westminster, Md./Westminster) before the Blue Jays scored. The trend continued as junior Sara Moeller (Phoenix, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) scored her first of the day off an assist from Jamison before Hopkins knotted things up at 2-2.

UMBC took a 3-2 lead after junior Brittany Levine (Middletown, Md./Middletown) fed the ball to classmate Payton Van Kirk (Ocean City, Md./Stephen Decatur) for her eighth goal of the season. Johns Hopkins responded to tie things up, but Moeller quickly gave UMBC a 4-3 lead with her 27th goal of the year.

The Blue Jays used a three-goal spurt to take a 6-4 lead before junior Lauren McDonald (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) scored on a man-up opportunity to cut the lead to one. Hopkins scored a final goal with eight seconds remaining in the first half and took a 7-5 lead into halftime.

McDonald cut Hopkins's lead to one again after the half, scoring just two and a half minutes into the second period. The Blue Jays again used a three-goal run, including two man-up goals, to take a 10-6 lead over the Retrievers, before Moeller broke it up with her third of the day.

Hopkins used one more three goal run to take a 13-7 lead with 5:12 left in the period, but Jamison and senior Caitlin Miller (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) added two final goals for UMBC at the end of the game for the 13-9 final.

On the day, Moeller led the team with four points (3g,1a), followed by Jamison (2g,1a) and McDonald (2g). Jamison led the team with four ground balls, while classmate Miller controlled six of UMBC's draws. Junior Kia Reinhardt (Frederick, Md./Frederick) had two caused turnovers and three ground balls.

In goal for Hopkins, Haley Crosson made eight saves in all 60 minutes of play. For UMBC, senior Kelsey Major (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) tied a season-high with 13 saves between the pipes.

The Retrievers will return to the field on Saturday, March 17 as they travel to Longwood for a 1 p.m. contest against the Lancers.
