Puccio's Strong Effort Not Enough as Softball Falls to North Florida In Extras

Box Score

Lafayette, La. -- Senior pitcher Kim Puccio (Sparta, NJ) went the distance, but it wasn't enough as the UMBC Softball Team fell, 1-0, to North Florida (9-8) in eight innings on Sunday Morning.

Puccio struck out three, walked two and allowed eight hits in 7.2 innings of work, while Mallory Pollack (Ivyland, Pa.) picked up UMBC's (1-9) only hit of the contest on a third inning infield single.

The Retrievers would not get another baserunner until the top of the seventh when Sierra Pierce (Youngstown, Ohio) drew a one out walk. Tori Alexander (Woodbridge, Va.) would then hit into fielders choice that got Pierce out, and was then caught stealing to end the inning. The Ospreys would load the bases with one out in the bottom of the eighth and win on a sacrifice fly.

UMBC returns to action on Friday when they travel to D.C. to kickoff the Georgetown tournament with games against Columbia and Howard.
