Men Break 200 Medley Record; Swimming and Diving Completes Day One of #AESD Championship

WORCESTER, Mass. – The UMBC swimming and diving teams had a strong showing on the first day of the America East Championships, including the men's 200 medley relay team breaking a meet and school record.

The team of Alexander Gliese, Jared Vance, Philip Adejumo, and Ilia Rattsev took home the gold in the final event of the evening with a record-time of 1:28.61, shaving .30 seconds off Boston University's time set back in 2011. The time also clocks in as a new school record, a mere .20 seconds off the previous record.

The night started off with a gold medal for the Retrievers as the team of Laura Massicotte, Natalija Marin, Britt Driscoll, and Hania Moro won the 800 free relay in a time of 7:20.38.

The men followed with a first-place finish in the 800 free as well, as the team of Adejumo, Nikola Trajkovic, Jonah Pennington, and Gliese clocked in with a time of 6:36.49, breaking a WPI pool record in the process.

On the boards, sophomore Ben Parker and junior Elijah Wright went one-two in the men's 3 meter dive. Parker took home gold with a score of 276.85, while Wright earned silver with a score of 262.20. Junior Leo Buoye finished fourth with a score of 248.60.

In the women's 1 meter dive, sophomore Abby Biddulph finished fourth with a score of 204.50.

Day two of the championships resume tomorrow at 10 a.m. with preliminaries, followed by the finals from WPI.
