The Retrievers drop their second straight to fall to 6-2 on the year, while the Eagles move to 4-3.

American jumped out early on the Retrievers, scoring the first 14 points of the game, making their first six shots. Tyler Moore (Portsmouth, Va.) ended the run with a corner three, but the Eagles continued their hot shooting in the quarter. The Eagles ended the quarter with a 30-8 lead with Janee'a Summers leading the Retrievers with five points.

The Eagles continued where they left off in the first, using an 8-0 run over a four minute span to increase their lead. Freshman Tania Hill (Brandywine, Md./Capital Christian Academy) ended the run with a layup. The Retriever defense would hold the Eagles to just 10 points in the quarter, trailing 40-15 at the break.

Neither team could find the basket in the early part of the third, with both teams missing chances around the rim. Paula Rubio (Madrid, Spain) ended the scoring drought for the Retrievers with a layup off an O'lesheya Braxton (Paterson, N.J.) dish. UMBC turned that into a quick 6-0 run off a three from Hill and an and one from Summers to cut the deficit. Summers scored seven points in the quarter to cut the deficit to 54-31 after three.

The Eagles continued to hold the Retrievers at bay. However, Te'yJah Oliver (Clinton, Md./Riverdale Baptist) and Summers led the charge in the quarter, as the Retrievers fell 64-42 to American on Wednesday night.

Summers led the way with 15 points and nine rebounds, her sixth double digit scoring game of the year. Rubio and Lucrezia Costa (Rome, Italy) each had six points in the loss.

Kaitlyn Lewis and Elina Koskimies each had a game high 16 points to lead the Eagles.
