Women's Swimming and Diving

Swimming and Diving Completes Competition at Patriot Invitational

FAIRFAX, Va. - The UMBC swimming and diving teams completed their competition at the George Mason Patriot Invitational on Saturday, November 18. The men finished sixth with 481 points and the women ended the competition seventh with 296 points.

 

UNCW won the Invite on both the men's (845 points) and women's (731 points) sides.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED - WOMEN

Hania Moro (New Cairo, Egypt) finished third in the 1650 free, touching in with a time of 16:55.88. Vanessa Esposito (Montreal, Quebec) finished 21st in a time of 18:15.08.

Kelly Lajoie (East Longmeadow, Mass.) finished 20th in the 200 back in a time of 2:06.90. Caroline Sargent (Trumbull, Conn.) came in 22nd in a time of 2:07.23 and Natalie Davis (Austin, Texas) finished 24th in a time of 2:08.14.

In the 100 free, Haylee Committe (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) finished 10th in a time of 52.44, followed by Madd Popalis (East Petersburg, Pa.) in 15th with a time of 53.07. Lajoie came in 21st with a time of 52.98.

Laura Massicotte (Quebec City, Quebec) came in 14th in the 200 breast, touching in with a time of 2:26.29. Committe touched in 16th with a time of 2:27.42, followed by Lily McCoy (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) at 20th in 2:26.12 and Emma Bridges (Foxboro, Mass.) at 22nd with a time of 2:28.54.
Holly Driscoll (Wallingford, Conn.) and Aleasha Knight (Ottawa, Ontario) rounded out the group at 23rd (2:29.46) and 24th (2:29.59), respectively.

In the 200 fly, Natalija Marin (Belgrade, Serbia) finished fourth in a time of 2:04.31. Sotiria Neofytou (Limassol, Cyprus) came in 15th with a time of 2:10.52 and Britt Driscoll (Wallinford, Conn.) finished 21st in a time of 2:12.57.

In the final event of the day, the team of Massicotte, Lajoie, Popalis, and Committe finished eighth in the 400 free relay, touching in with a time of 3:31.30. Tonia Papapertrou, Marin, McCoy, and Moro followed at 11th in a time of 3:33.99.

HOW IT HAPPENED - MEN

Kai Wisner (Syracuse, N.Y.) finished third in the 1650 free, touching in with a time of 15:47.36. Haythem Abdelkhalek (Ariana, Tunisia) came in 10th with a time of 16:24.66, followed by Matthew Bennici (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) at 11th in 16:26.01.
Ryan Lawson (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) finished 22nd in a time of 16:54.96 and Connor Robison (Wallingford, Conn.) finished 24th in a time of 17:21.00.

Alexander Gliese (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) took home silver in the 200 back, touching in with a time of 1:46.69. Garrett Wlochowski (Manchester, Conn.) came in sixth with a time of 1:51.12.
Freshmen Luka Zuric (Setauket, N.Y.) and Satori Dobbie (Christchurch, New Zealand) finished 10th (1:51.40) and 16th (1:54.69), respectively. Ryan Bugianesi (Bridgewater, N.J.) and Jeremy Gates (Escondido, Calif.) came in 18th (1:54.57) and 24th (1:58.04), respectively.

Ilia Rattsev (Moscow, Russia) took home silver in the 100 free, touching in with a time of 45.14. Tiago Asakawa (Sumaré, Brazil) finished seventh in a time of 46.30.

Luis Galvan Cardenas (Torreon, Mexico) came in 13th in the 200 breast, touching in with a time of 2:08.04. Connor Ganley (Ellicott City, Md./Mount St. Joseph's) and Kai Vilbig (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) finished 18th (2:09.79) and 19th (2:10.67), respectively.
Jethro Sszengonzi (Cary, N.C.) was right behind the pair at 20th in a time of 2:12.93. Collin Mood (Frederick, Md./Oakdale) finished 23rd in a time of 2:18.63.

Bennici finished 14th in the 200 fly, touching in with a time of 1:53.43. Jack Carlisle (Cape Town, South Africa) came in 19th with a time of 1:53.76.

In the 400 free relay, Asakawa, Gliese, Ganley, and Rattsev finished sixth with a time of 3:04.62. Jonah Pennington, Wlochowski, Ross Welsh, and Dobbie came in 10th with a time of 3:08.79.

UP NEXT

The Retrievers will take a break from the pool before returning home on Saturday, Dec. 1 to host VMI at the UMBC Aquatic Complex at 1 p.m.
