Men's Soccer Falls in America East Championship at New Hampshire

Box Score

Durham, N.H. -- The fifth-seeded UMBC Men's Soccer team's magical America East Tournament came to an end on Sunday afternoon, as second-seeded New Hampshire won its first ever America East title with a 5-0 victory.

The Retrievers, who had been plagued by injuries all season, upset No.4 Vermont in penalty kicks on the road in the pouring rain last weekend and followed that up by stunning regular season champion Stony Brook on Long Island last Wednesday. The 1-0 win over the Seawolves in the semifinal sent UMBC to the America East title match for the sixth time in the past ten seasons, with four resulting titles.

The Wildcats (12-3-2) jumped out to a 2-0 lead just 5:55 in and never looked back. UMBC (10-6-4) was lead by two shots from Ben Dao (Frederick, Md.) and three saves from Quantrell Jones (Baltimore, Md.). UNH allowed only nine goals all season and went undefeated at home.

The Retrievers will return a core group of underclassmen, including all-conference players Jon Bell (Silver Spring, Md.) and Cesare Marconi (Loano, Italy) and all-rookie team members Jones and Jordan Ehart (Severna Park, Md.)

Jordan Dove (Gambrills, Md.), who scored the semifinal game-winner at Stony Brook, senior Kyle Saunderson (Laurel, Md.) and Bell were named to the All-Championship Team.
