BALTIMORE – The UMBC swimming and diving teams will open their official season on Saturday, October 6 as they welcome the Delaware Blue Hens and Johns Hopkins Blue Jays for a 1 p.m. meet. The Retrievers competed in a non-scored meet against the Bucknell Bison last Saturday.

BRING IN THE PUPS
The Retrievers welcome 23 freshman to the team this year, with 10 on the women's side and 13 on the men's side.
The women welcome McCoy (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore), Emma Bridges (Foxboro, Mass./Foxboro), Mya Loniewski (Redford, Mich./Mercy), Tonia Papaetrou (Nicosia, Cyprus/Lyceum Sciences Life Sciences Informatics Tech), Caroline Sargent (Trumbull, Conn./The Academy of Our Lady of Mercy), Sophia Smith (Olathe, Kansas/Olathe East), Madeleine Songer (Hermitage, Pa./Sharon), Courtney Spelman (Monrovia, Md./Urbana), and Maren Weathersby (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle). Neofytou (Limassol, Cyrpus/Lanitio Likeio) joins the team as a transfer from the University of Indianapolis.

A LOOK BACK AT LAST YEAR
Last season, the men's program captured their first America East title since 2013 as they racked up a conference-record 1,113 points.
The men return Gliese, Rattsev, Galvan Cardenas, and Haythem Abdelkhalek, who each broke UMBC and America East records at the conference championships last season, as well as Wisner.
On the women's side, Moro, Marin, Vance, Massicotte, Committe, and Popalis, along with Britt Driscoll and Kelly Lajoie, all helped the women mount an almost comeback at the America East Championships, as the Retrievers finished 4.5 points behind the champion New Hampshire Wildcats.
UMBC swept the Rookie of the Year awards, with Wisner and Marin each bringing home the hardware, while Rattsev took home Male Outstanding Swimmer.
