Women's Soccer Falls to UAlbany, 4-0, in Final Road Match

ALBANY, N.Y. – In the team's final road game of the season, the UMBC women's soccer team fell, 4-0, to the UAlbany Great Danes on Thursday, Oct. 18.

STRAIGHT FACTS

  • UAlbany was first on the board after Mariah Williams scored off a pass from Caroline Kopp in the 6th minute.

  • Williams looked to give the Great Danes a 2-0 lead in the 11th minute, but Jade Wilkins (Stoney Beach, Md./The Catholic High School) made a sliding save to keep the ball out of the net.

  • Wilkins would make another save in the 31st minute to keep the game at just 1-0.

  • Elysia Paolillo (Holliston, Mass.) sent UMBC's only shot on goal towards the net in the 36th minute, which Andrea Leitner was able to save.

  • Wilkins closed out the first half with two saves in the 39th and 42nd minutes.

  • The second half started with a save by Wilkins and a defensive save by Megan Chun (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) to keep the Great Danes out of the net.

  • Williams scored her second of the game in the 56th minute to give UAlbany a 2-0 advantage.

  • Jasmine Colbert gave the Great Danes a 3-0 lead in the 66th minute after she scored off a rebounded shot that was originally saved.

  • UAlbany scored its final goal in the 69th minute when Kopp sent a free kick in towards Kimberly Dierorff, who put the shot into the back of the net.

FOR THE RECORD

  • UAlbany moves to 4-2-1 in America East play and 10-6-2 overall on the year. UMBC falls to 0-7-0 in conference contests and 1-15-0 on the season.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • UAlbany outshot UMBC, 25-2, with a 13-1 advantage on goal.

  • The Great Danes took four corners in the game, compared to the Retrievers' one.

MINDING THE NET

  • Leitner made one save in goal for the Great Danes. Wilkins made a season-high eight saves for the Retrievers.

ONTO THE NEXT ONE

  • UMBC will play its final regular season game on Sunday, Oct. 21 as they host the Maine Black Bears at 12 p.m. Following the game, the team will honor its five graduating seniors. Tickets can be purchased at tickets.umbc.edu.
