BALTIMORE, Md. - Freshmen Christina Corbi (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) and Erin Stevenson (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) helped to break a four-game losing streak as UMBC women's soccer shut out Longwood, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon. The Retrievers move to 2-4-1 on the season, while the Lancers fall to 5-3-0.

Corbi helped to put UMBC on the board first in the 18th minute after sophomore Nikki Saad (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) beat out a defender and crossed the ball to Corbi in front of the box. Corbi then shot the ball into the left side of the net for her second goal of the season.

Longwood would attempt to tie things up in the 20th minute off a shot by Kathryn Miller, but junior Leah Roth (Valencia, Pa./Pine-Richland) was there to make the stop.

The Retrievers almost took a 2-0 lead before halftime after Corbi sent a corner kick into the box and Stevenson got a head on the ball, but Longwood made the save, keeping UMBC's lead to only 1-0 at the break.

In the 56th minute, however, Stevenson had her time to shine as she scored her first collegiate goal to give UMBC the 2-0 lead. After Saad took a corner kick, Stevenson was able to collect the ball and sent it past the goalkeeper and into the right corner of the net.

On the day, Corbi, Stevenson, and Saad led the Retrievers with two shots each. Emilie Kupsov led the Lancers with three shots.

Overall, the Lancers outshot the Retrievers, 11-9, in the contest, but UMBC put five on goal compared to Longwood's three.

In goal, Roth made three saves while picking up her second shutout of the season. Longwood's Maria Kirby made two saves in 90 minutes of play.
