Box Score Baltimore, Md.— UMBC men's soccer took down Howard, 3-0 with a record crowd on hand at Retriever Soccer Park. 2,873 fans packed the stands and hill, as UMBC got two own goals and a goal from sophomore Colin Weyant (Perry Hall, Md./Perry Hall) in the 80th minute to move to 2-0 on the year.
The scoring got started in the first half as a cross from Cormac Noel (Todmorden, England) was deflected into the goal from a Howard defender to give UMBC a 1-0 lead.
The Retrievers would add to their score in the 74th minute as Weyant crossed the ball in and was headed in by a Bison defender giving UMBC a 2-0 lead. Weyant would add a tally of his own just minutes later. He took a beautiful through ball from junior Patrick Jean-Gilles (Woodbridge, Va./South County) and placed it into the right side to make it 3-0 UMBC.
Freshman keeper Ciaran O'Loughlin (Birkenhead, England) recorded his second straight shutout in as many games, making three saves on Monday.
Sophomore Tre McCalla (Toronto, Ontario) recorded four shots, as Gregg Hauck (Linthicum, Md./North County) placed three on goal.
Overall, the Retrievers out-shot the Bison, 20-4, earning 12 corners on the evening.
The Retrievers will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 2 against Villanova. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. in Philadelphia.
