Cologer Breaks School Record in Mile at ECAC Championships on Saturday

Boston, Mass.— UMBC track and field had a strong showing on day two of the ECAC Championships in Boston. Several Retrievers qualified for finals tomorrow. Sophia Cologer shattered the school record in the mile prelims to lead the pack.

Cologer finished in 11th place, just missing out on the finals, but broke the school record with a time of 4:51.70. Madeleine Entwistle finished 17th in the prelims of the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.81, advancing to the semis. In the semis, Entwistle took 14th with a time of 8.82.

In the sprints, Funmi Daramola earned a pair of top 20 finishes, taking 13th in the 400m (56.83) and 15th in the 200m (24.90). Mercedes Tillman took 14th in the 400m with a time of 57.03, while Amani Wallace (24.94) and Erin Patrice (7.77) took 18th in the 200m and 21st in the 60m respectively.

Tori Johnson finished 15th in the 500m prelims with a time of 1:15.30, while Kaya Knake was right behind her in 20th in a time of 1:15.86.

On the men's side, Erick Soetje had the best finish of any Retriever male, just missing the school record in the 500m prelims. Soetje finished in third with at time of 1:03.38, advancing to the finals tomorrow. He was just .03 seconds off the school mark.

Other top Retriever finishers in sprints included Brian Nelson in the 60m dash (seventh, 6.96), and James Oakley III in the 200m (21.77). Oakley advanced to the finals of his event tomorrow.

In distance, Urgy Eado took 13th in the mile prelims with a time of 4:10.69, with Miles Smith finishing the 800m in 14th in 1:52.16.

The meet will conclude tomorrow, starting at 10 a.m. from the Boston University Track and Tennis Center.
