Worcester, Mass.—UMBC swimming and diving continues to dominate the field at the America East Championships, as they remain in first place heading into tomorrow's finale. Senior Emily Escobedo broke more records on Saturday, adding to her long list of accomplishments at this year's meet.
The New York native broke the school, conference and meet record in the 100 breast, going 59.02 in the prelims, hitting an NCAA A cut. She would go on to win the race in the finals with a time of 59.46. Teammates Kayla Lilly (1:03.01) and Maddy Popalis (1:03.54) finished three-four in the race.
UMBC swept the 100 back, led by senior Lauren Day, who won gold with a time of 55.34. Kylie Danin and Emily Vance went two-three with times of 56.48 and 56.56 respectively.
Laura Massicotte earned silver in the 400 IM, touching in with a time of 4:20.29. Aleasha Knight finished just behind her in 4:21.88 while Kelly Lajoie placed sixth in 4:29.26.
Amanda Day finished second in the 100 fly, touching the wall in 55.42. Danin earned her second medal of the day in the event, taking fifth in 56.45, while Cassandra Willie finished seventh in 56.75.
Escobedo, Lauren Day, and Amanda Day teamed up with Haylee Committe to win gold in the 400 medley relay. The quartet out-touched New Hampshire in a time of 3:42.57.
On the boards, Abby Biddulph earned a fourth place finish in the 3 meter dive with a score of 216.75. 1 meter champ Devin Gromen finished fifth with a score of 212.45.
The Retrievers maintain their hold on first with 644.5 points, ahead of New Hampshire in second with 507. Vermont (467), Maine (266) and Binghamton (259.5) round out the field heading into the final day.
The last day of the meet will start with prelims at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m. tomorrow from WPI.
