DURHAM, N.H. – In the America East Conference opener, the UMBC women's soccer team fell to the New Hampshire Wildcats, 4-0 at Bremner Field. New Hampshire moves to 4-4-2 (1-0-0 America East), while UMBC falls to 4-6-0 (0-1-0 America East).

New Hampshire took an early 1-0 lead in the third minute, when Brook Murphy one-touched a pass into the net past goalkeeper Leah Roth.

In the 11th minute of the game, Murphy would send a pass over to Liz Lane who would run with the ball and draw the goalie out of the net. Lane then placed the ball into the right corner to put the Wildcats up 2-0.

After the half, New Hampshire added another goal on the day in the as Kendra Prince fed the ball to Sydney Griffin, who shot the ball from at least twenty yards outside the box and sent it straight into the post; the ball would take a lucky bounce for the Wildcats as it would head directly into the net.

The Wildcats notched their fourth goal of the day in the 62nd minute after Veronica Hardy stole the ball from the Retrievers and passed it to Kelsey Davis, who tapped it into an empty net.

UMBC's best chance for a score came in the 56th minute, where sophomore Jenna Denis sent a header towards the net but New Hampshire's Mimi Borkan was there to make the save. Freshman Nikki Saad also had a chance to net a score for the Retrievers, but Borkan was there again to punch it away.

Overall, New Hampshire out-shot UMBC 22-8, including a 13-2 advantage in the first period. Borkan earned the shutout with three saves on the day before Morgan Baumgartner entered in the 82nd minute. Roth was able to save six of the Wildcats' shots on goal.

UP NEXT FOR THE RETRIEVERS: UMBC will remain on the road to face Hartford in conference play on Thursday, Sept. 29. Kick-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
