BALTIMORE, Md. – A hour and a half rain delay proved to be a damper for the UMBC women's soccer team as it fell to crosstown rival Loyola (Md)., 2-0 in Sunday afternoon's matchup at Ridley Athletic Complex. The Greyhounds move to 2-0-0 on the season, while the Retrievers fall to 1-1-0.

The first half started off slow with the Retrievers tallying one shot courtesy of an outside-of-the-box launch from senior Dee Morris in the tenth minute, but sophomore goalkeeper Sumer Rahe was there to make the stop.  In the 24th minute, UMBC had another chance after freshman Nikki Saad took off with the ball from midfield, but Rahe was able to grab the ball off the field before Saad could get a shot off.

After the second half kicked off, the Greyhounds would register the first goal of the game in the 51st minute, when Emily Lung would curve a ball into the upper left side of the net from 23-yards out.

Loyola added another score to the board in the 78th minute, after Mia Sardella's corner kick was played right in front of Nicole Wahlig's feet and was tapped into the goal.

The Retrievers had chances to score in second half, including two header shots from junior Shannon Phillips and a late attempt from redshirt-senior Alexa Quaranta, all of which were saves. Overall, UMBC finished with eight shots on the night, including four on goal.

In goal, sophomore Leah Roth finished with one save, while Rahe registered four in the shutout.
