Worcester, Mass.—UMBC women's swimming and diving found themselves in first place heading into the final day of competition at the 2016 America East Championships. Junior Emily Escobedo broke yet another record on Saturday, this time in the 100 breast.
Escobedo just missed out on finishing the race in under a minute, touching in at 1:00.05. Emily previously owned the record with a time of 1:01.01 set last year. Kayla Lilly finished second in the race with a time of 1:02.86, while freshman Maddy Popalis was third in 1:04.65.
Lauren Day was also an individual winner on Saturday, winning the 100 back in a time of 55.82.
Laura Massicotte took second in the 400 IM, clocking in with a time of 4:23.28. Amanda Day (55.95), Catherine Frediani (56.20), and Hannah Sutherland (56.34) earned a second, fourth and fifth place finish in the 100 fly in the last solo event of the day.
Senior Coco Darelius earned a gold medal in the 3 meter dive, after taking second in the 1 meter on Thursday. Coco finished with a score of 261.00.
In the lone relay of the day, the quartet of Lauren Day, Emily Escobedo, Amanda Day, and Kristie Langford earned gold in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:44.40.
Heading into the final day, UMBC is in the lead with 626 points. New Hampshire is right behind with 588.5 points, while Vermont (446), Maine (301) and Binghamton (224.5) round out the field.
