Volleyball Swept by No.2 Albany in America East Semifinals

Durham, N.H. -- Second-seeded Albany used timely runs to pull away late in sets and sweep third-seeded UMBC (25-19, 25-13, 25-15) in the America East semifinal on Friday afternoon at Lundholm Gymnasium of the campus of New Hampshire.

Zoya Trendafilova (Sofia,Bulgaria/Elisaveta Bagryana) led all players with 10 kills and added seven digs, while Kristin Watson (Bowie, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) finished with 19 digs and four assists.

The Retrievers end the season with a record of 17-9, while the Great Danes improve to 16-9 and will face the winner of the No.4 Binghamton vs No.1 UNH match, tomorrow at 4 p.m.

The first set started off well for UMBC, as they took the first three points, but Albany took the next three which led to the teams trading points until the Great Danes pulled away after it was 11-11 to take the set.

The second set was similar to the first in that it was tight early, but Albany used a big 7-0 run midway through the set to create separation and take the set 25-13. The Great Danes dominated the third set from start to finish to take the match.
