Women's Soccer Falls to UMass Lowell, 1-0 in Double Overtime

BALTIMORE, Md. – In a hard fought battle through two overtimes, the UMBC women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 America East contest to UMass Lowell on Thursday, Oct. 6. The River Hawks move to 4-6-2 (2-2-0 America East), while the Retrievers fell to 5-8-0 (1-3-0 America East). The loss marks the first at Retriever Soccer Park this season for UMBC.

Both teams fought hard through the first half, with the River Hawks out-shooting the Retrievers 11-4 in the first 45 minutes.

After a second half battle and a scoreless first overtime period, UMass Lowell finally scored in the 103rd minute after Jaymee Luke stole the ball away from UMBC and fed it over to Katelyn Vieira, who was able to head the ball into the goal for the score.

The Retrievers had many opportunities to score, led by sophomore Wren Aye who had four shots, two of them on goal. UMBC bounced back in shots, trailing UMass Lowell 18-22 at the end of the contest.

In goal, the River Hawks' Julia Schneider moved to 3-6-1 on the season after making six saves in the shutout. Sophomore Leah Roth fell to 5-8-0, but made seven saves and allowed the single goal.

UP NEXT FOR THE RETRIEVERS: UMBC will have a week off before they travel to Vermont on Thursday, Oct. 13. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
