Women's Soccer Falls to Stony Brook, 1-0 on Sunday

BALTIMORE, Md. – A second-half penalty kick goal for Stony Brook handed the UMBC women's soccer team a 1-0 loss at Retriever Soccer Park on Sunday, Oct. 16. The Seawolves move to 8-7-2 overall and 5-1-0 in conference play, while the Retrievers fall to 5-9-1, 1-4-1 in America East contests.

After UMBC was called for a foul inside of the box, Stony Brook's Raven Edwards lined up for the PK. She sent the ball into the right corner of the net behind sophomore goalkeeper Leah Roth for the game's only goal.

The Seawolves out-shot the Retrievers, 12-4 overall; UMBC's best chance of a score came in the 86th minute off a header from freshman Jamie Shiflett that landed in the arms of Stony Brook's Cara Gallagher.

Gallagher moves to 8-2-1 on the season, earning her seventh shutout after making three saves on the day. Roth fell to 5-9-1 after allowing the lone goal and making six saves.  

UP NEXT FOR THE RETRIEVERS: UMBC will host its final home game of the season on Thursday, Oct. 20 as Binghamton comes to Baltimore. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Prior to the game, the team's four seniors will be honored.
