BALTIMORE – UMBC softball dropped the America East series finale to Binghamton on Sunday afternoon at UMBC Softball Stadium, registering four hits and leaving seven runners on base in a 4-0 loss to the Bearcats.

UMBC falls for the sixth straight contest to drop to 21-23 overall and 7-5 in America East action, while Binghamton wins its fourth straight to improve to 17-16 overall and 8-5 in the league.

The Bearcats' starting pitcher Sarah Miller improved to 7-6 on the season with the shutout victory. The rookie struck out four batters and walked three in the win. UMBC starting pitcher Jessica Holte (Ashland, Va./Atlee) surrendered four runs on five hits and fanned six batters to drop to 13-10 on the year.

Binghamton jumped out in front 1-0 in the top of the first inning on a two-out RBI-single from catcher Lisa Cadogan. First baseman Taylor Chaffee followed with a two-run shot over the fence in left center to extend the lead to three after the first half inning.

After stranding 21 runners on base in Saturday's doubleheader, UMBC continued to struggle to find timely hits on Sunday, stranding six runners on base in the first four innings of play.

The Bearcats added a run to their advantage in the top of the sixth inning on a solo home run from Jessica Rutherford to make it a four-run lead.

UP NEXT FOR THE RETRIEVERS: UMBC travels to Stony Brook, N.Y. for the final weekend of the regular season. The Retrievers will play Maine in a neutral site doubleheader on Wednesday, April 29, before battling the Seawolves in a three-game series over the weekend.
