UMBC Softball Returns to America East Action at UMass Lowell; Friday Game Times Moved Up

BALTIMORE – UMBC softball returns to America East action with a three-game series against UMass Lowell set for Friday, April 3 and Saturday, April 4. Friday's doubleheader has been pushed up to 11 a.m., followed by the series finale on Saturday at 11 a.m. at River View Field.

SCOUTING THE RETRIEVERS (13-12, 3-0 AE): The Retrievers opened league action by sweeping a three-game series against Hartford on Sunday and Monday, but UMBC snapped its six game win streak with a  6-3 loss to George Washington on Tuesday. Senior Taylor Hall registered her third home run of the season versus the Colonials and moved into a tie for fifth on UMBC's all-time RBI list (132).

UMBC picked up a pair of league honors on Tuesday, with Hall being named the Player of the Week and freshman Tori Alexander earning Rookie of the week honors. The duo has combined to bat .412 on the season with 12 extra-base hits and 27 runs batted in. Alexander leads the team in stolen bases (nine), while Hall has drawn 18 walks en route to a team-best .532 on-base percentage.

In the circle, sophomore Jessica Holte is 6-0 in her last six starts to improve to 7-5 on the season. Holte has registered a pair of shutouts and leads the team with 56 strikeouts and a 2.12 ERA.

SCOUTING THE RIVER HAWKS (10-14, 0-0 AE): UMass Lowell was forced to postpone its America East opening series last weekend against Binghamton and will open league action against the Retrievers. The River Hawks split Tuesday's doubleheader against Bryant, defeating the Bulldogs, 10-9, in game one and falling 5-1 in game two.

Ariana Darcy it batting a team-best .304 on the season, while Emilia Davies has tallied seven extra-base hits and 13 runs batted in.

In the circle, Courtney Lanfranchi has registered a perfect 3-0 mark in 11 appearances. Erica Armenti has recorded a team-best 3.94 ERA in 69.1 innings of work.
