Escobedo Sets School, Conference Record on Day One of NCAA Championships

MEET RESULTS

Greensboro, N.C.-- Sophomore Emily Escobedo (New Rochelle, N.Y./Maria Regina) kicked off her run in the 2015 NCAA Championships on Thursday. Emily competed in the 200 IM, placing 32nd in the prelim rounds. 

Escobedo swam a school and America East best time 1:58.72 to place 32nd in the prelims. Olypian Missy Franklin of California-Berkley paced the field with a time of 1:53.62. Fellow America East competitor Katie Mann of New Hampshire turned in a 39th place finish witha time of 1:59.05. 

Escobedo is the third female and fourth overall to qualify for the NCAA Championships. Emily will be the first ever swimmer to make the national meet twice, in back-to-back years. Emily joins Jacque Wisnauskas (1999) and UMBC Hall of Famer Lindsey Prather (2002) to compete.

"We are so proud of Emily," Coach Cradock said of Escobedo. "To get to this meet is one thing, then to come and record a school and conference best time is another. She works hard and is now getting rewarded for it."

Emily will continue her run at the 2015 NCAA Championships in the 100 breast tomorrow, and then the 200 breast on Saturday.
